Google Visibility

Your Google Business Profile is the first thing most local customers see. We claim it, fill it in properly, and keep it working.

Your Google Listing Is Your Real Front Page

For a local business, more people will see your Google Business Profile than will ever see your website. It is the panel that appears beside the search results with your name, rating, opening hours, photos and a call button. Someone searching on a phone can read it, decide, and ring you without a single page of your website ever loading.

That makes it the single highest-value piece of digital property most small businesses own, and it is free. It is also the one most often left half-finished: claimed years ago by someone who has left, never verified, wrong opening hours over Christmas, three photos from 2019, and a category that does not match what the business now does.

Google visibility work is about getting that listing right and keeping it right, then making sure the rest of the web agrees with it.

Getting The Profile Itself Right

We start by finding out what already exists. Very often there is a listing nobody claimed, generated automatically from other data, or two listings competing with each other after a move. Duplicates split your reviews and confuse Google about which is real, so they get merged or removed first.

Then we get you verified and in control of it, in your own Google account rather than ours. That last point matters. Some agencies keep client listings under their own login, which means you lose access the day you stop paying them. Your listing belongs to you and stays in your name. We work on it as a manager.

After that it is detail work, and the detail is what moves the needle:

  • Categories. One primary category chosen carefully, because it does more for what you rank for than almost anything else on the listing, plus secondary categories for the rest of what you do.
  • Services and products. Each one listed individually with its own description, which gives Google far more to match a search against than a business name alone.
  • Hours, including holidays. Nothing costs a local business more goodwill than a customer driving over on a bank holiday to a closed door.
  • Service area or address. Set correctly depending on whether customers come to you or you go to them, since getting this wrong can remove you from local results entirely.
  • Attributes. Parking, accessibility, payment methods, appointment requirements: small things that filter searches and decide close calls.

Photos, Posts And Keeping It Alive

A listing that never changes looks abandoned to a customer and reads as inactive to Google. Both are worth fixing.

Photos

Real photographs of your premises, your team, your van, your work. Stock images are obvious and they do not help, because part of what the searcher is doing is deciding whether you look like a real local business. Photos of finished work are particularly effective for trades, because they answer the only question the customer actually has. We set up a simple routine so you can add a couple each month from your phone.

Posts

Google Business Profile lets you publish short updates: an offer, a job you have just finished, a seasonal reminder, a change to your hours. They appear on your listing and they signal that the business is active. They take a few minutes and most businesses never use them.

Questions And Answers

Anyone can ask a question on your listing, and anyone can answer it, including people who do not work for you. Left unattended this becomes a small liability. We monitor it, answer properly, and seed the obvious questions people ring you about anyway.

What We Set Up

  • Claim, verify and secure your listing
  • Merge or remove duplicate listings
  • Primary and secondary categories set
  • Services and products written out
  • Hours, holidays and attributes
  • Photo and post routine set up
  • Review link and response handling
  • Monthly insights report

Reviews, And How To Get Them Without Nagging

Reviews do two jobs at once. They are a ranking signal in the map pack, and they are the thing a human reads before deciding to ring. A business with fourteen recent reviews averaging 4.7 will beat one with three reviews from 2021, even if the second is the better tradesperson.

The reason most businesses have few reviews is not that customers are unwilling. It is that nobody asks, or asking feels awkward, or the customer says yes and then cannot find where to do it. We fix the mechanics: a short direct link that goes straight to the review box, a card or a text message template you can send the moment a job is finished, and a habit of asking at the point where the customer is happiest.

We also handle responses. Every review gets a reply, including the bad ones. A calm, specific reply to a poor review does more for a watching customer than the review itself does damage. What we will not do is buy reviews or write them for you: it breaches Google’s policies, and businesses do get caught.

Consistency Across The Rest Of The Web

Google checks your listing against everywhere else you appear. If your phone number on the listing does not match the one on Yell, Facebook and your own website, that inconsistency weakens the whole thing. We audit where your business is mentioned, correct the details that are wrong, and make sure your name, address and phone number are written identically everywhere, down to whether it says Street or St.

What Changes, And When

Profile work is usually the fastest thing we can do for a local business. Correcting categories, filling in services and fixing hours often produces visible movement in the map pack within a few weeks, because the listing updates far quicker than a website ranking does.

What we track is not just position. The useful numbers are on the profile itself: how many people saw it, how many searched for you by name versus finding you by service, how many tapped to call, how many asked for directions, and how many clicked through to your website. Those are actions, not vanity metrics, and they are what goes in your report.

Google visibility works best alongside local SEO on your website, because the two reinforce each other: your site backs up the claims on your listing, and your listing sends people to your site. It is included from our Framework tier and can be set up as a standalone piece of work if your website is fine as it is.

Where Proximity Sets The Limit

One thing worth being straight about: distance is a ranking factor in the map pack that no amount of optimisation overrides. If someone is searching from Anlaby, a business in Anlaby has an advantage over one in east Hull, and that is by design. Google is trying to answer the question the searcher actually asked, which is usually who is near me.

What that means in practice is that the goal is not to rank first across the whole of Hull. It is to own the area around you completely, then extend outward as far as your reviews, your categories and your consistency will carry you. For a business with one premises that is a realistic target. For a trade covering the whole of East Yorkshire from a van, the service area setting and the website pages do the work the address cannot.

It also means anyone promising you the top map result citywide is either misunderstanding how it works or hoping you do not.
